How Foster Villa Works

Foster Villa Foundation is building small neighborhood communities that help families move from homelessness to independence.

Our approach develops in stages:

Community Gardens
Vacant land is transformed into community gardens and learning spaces where neighbors, volunteers, and youth work together.

Transitional Housing
Small housing units provide safe temporary housing for families while they participate in employment, financial literacy, and life-skills programs.

Family Stabilization Housing
Rehabilitated homes provide longer-term housing opportunities for families working toward independence.

Independent Living
Families transition into permanent housing with the stability and support developed during their time in the program.

Neighborhood Garden & Youth Learning Project

As part of this mission, the Foundation is developing a Neighborhood Garden & Youth Learning Project designed to promote food access, hands-on education, and positive neighborhood activation.

The project design aligns with Detroit’s Complete Streets principles by promoting safe pedestrian access, visible green space activation, and youth-centered community engagement.
